by Ricker Winsor – I started working with a fountain pen about five years ago. “Make use of the fringes of time,” my father told me. We have time between the things we do, time waiting. And I love to draw and do not always want to wait until I can find a special time and place for that. Now, I always carry my gear with me, a good pad, and pens, Lamy Safari pens, the best.

I get huge pleasure making these drawings, never sure how they will turn out. It is an adventure. The response is so direct, eye, brain, hand. No corrections possible but somehow most succeed. There is a concept in Japanese esthetics called Wabi Sabi which allows mistakes and awkwardness as part of beauty. Certainly, what I do relates strongly to that. Beyond the so-called mistakes, something else is revealed. Look at the people closely and see different personalities clearly seen or imagined. Sometimes I think I am channeling spirits onto the page! I hope you enjoy my pen work as much as I do!
