Meet Chris Hyde

Chris Hyde

Chris Hyde is an artist, musician and author who is best known as the creator of the Souper Sunday movement based in Olympia, Washington. He is on a mission to connect neighbors through sharing food and building community.

Hyde believes that there is an epidemic of loneliness, isolation and hopelessness in our society that needs to be healed by acknowledging that we are all connected as members of our shared human family.

Souper Sunday is for anyone and not need-based.

Hyde noticed a serious crack in the system that was leaving a large number of fully employed community members food insecure. He has started a growing number of Souper Sunday Satellite groups in 3 states that make delicious, nutritious meals for their neighbors FOR FREE! And in December of 2024 he started The Food Source Foundation, a nonprofit organization addressing the growing problem of food insecurity in the greater Olympia area. This group is currently supporting several local groups that feed neighbors for free.

He thought a recipe book would be a good way to spread the word about his project. He reached out to a local artist, Roxanna Groves, to do the illustrations for what would become Bear’s Souper Sunday Cookbook – Recipes for Hungry Animals, an illustrated children’s recipe book.

Hyde believes this book is what the world really needs right now. It encourages adults to share recipes and messages of hope and community with their children towards creating a more connected and positive future.
