This delightful illustrated children’s cookbook restores hope and community through the act of making and sharing food.
It’s an effective way for parents and other caregivers to bond with children through its whimsical stories, wonderful illustrations, and easy, healthy recipes. Kids will love the stories and illustrations, and spending quality time with their folks.
The book includes 12 soup recipes, each represented by a woodland animal. Squirrel, for example, loves peanuts, so he convinces Bear, the gentle patriarch of the forest community, to make a soup that Squirrel’s cousin, African Squirrel, told him about. Bear gladly accepts the challenge and tells readers how to make this special soup.
The soups are original recipes that Hyde has made for the “Souper Sunday” group he created, where he makes soup for his neighbors for free.
Bear’s Souper Sunday Cookbook: Recipes for Hungry Animals is a fundraiser for The Food Source Foundation, also created by Hyde.
The recipes in the cookbook are vegetarian because, as Hyde explained, they are the animals’ recipes, and he didn’t think it made sense for them to cook other animals.
